Following his recent lecture to the photography students, Fashion photographer Jonathan Hallam returned to the photography department at Barking & Dagenham College on Thursday 28 February 2013, this time as a guest mentor to develop studio photography skills with the students.

British photographer Jonathan Hallam lives and works in London.
Jonathan Hallam first worked as assistant to renowned hair stylist Eugene Souleiman in Paris, where he was first introduced to Maison Martin Margiela. After living in Paris for six years and pursuing his photography career, Jonathan returned to London, where he is a contributor to magazines such as Purple Fashion (since 2003), Self Service, i-D and Encens.
Jonathan Hallam also contributed to the book publication Yogji Yammoto, a Taschen monograph curated by Terry Jones (2012, Taschen)

Editorial: 10 Magazine, A Magazine (curated by Martin Margiela), Dazed and Confused, Encens, i-D, Purple Fashion, Self Service, Zoo Magazine, Sleek, Spin Magazine, Tiger, Turkish Vogue…
Film: Borba Margo, Emilio de la Moreno, Show Studios…
Commercial: Maison Martin Margiela, Mode en Module, Office Shoes, Sydney Brown, Topshop…
Music: Fiest, Justice, Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes), Scout Nibblet, Razor Light, The Kooks…

That was a great day, thanks, so much fun and we shot loads!

Jonathan is really cool, he explains things in simple terms and isn’t afraid to make mistakes and play around with errors. He has an extensive knowledge of photography, telling using everything from the dye transfer process and the history of colour to the collodion wet plate process. Every in the group said it was our best practical lesson yet.
